“It鈥檚 high time that the Egyptian government partners with the private sector. The private sector in Egypt is extremely resourceful,” says Tony Freiji, President & CEO Wadi Group.
“Slowly but surely we are going to start to see more positive results. I expect to see this happen quickly on a regional level, i.e. from the GCC market and then later on from the international market, i.e. Europe and the Americas,” comments Mahmoud ElKeiy, General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at The First Residence.
“The latest figures show that the average spending per person, that went down from USD 85 per night to USD 62 until very recently, has slowly climbed back to about USD 80 per person, per night. We are almost back there. Looking forward to 2015, (I am knocking on wood), if we move the way we are moving, we will be back to normal by the end of the year. In 2016, we foresee a higher level of business for Egypt.”
Amid ample demand from an ever young and ambitious population, property in the oil-rich kingdom is booming. But the run for climatised square meters in the desert adds fuels inflation in the biggest Gulf Arab country.
“Our biggest project here in Egypt is our partnership with the Egyptian Food Bank and our pledge to develop the hundred poorest villages in Egypt. We also have a project that is focused on improving the lives of 4,000 women and their families in these villages which provides microbusinesses to women in rural areas,” explains Omar Mandour, GM of Coca-Cola Egypt, Yemen, Libya and South Sudan.
“Egypt was the second country in the world to produce cinema. When the film industry was started by the two French brothers, the Lumi猫re brothers, immediately the next year, Egypt produced the first Egyptian film in Alexandria.”
“The shipping industry has never been affected as most of the Egyptian ports which were secured,聽only for a few days during the Arab Spring. All international trade was running perfectly most of the time, except for those few days and only in certain ports in the Red Sea and the Mediterranean. The authorities and the government did a fantastic job in controlling the uprising at that time.”
“Our gardens really transport you away from the reality of everyday life in Cairo. I mean, when you sit in a garden and enjoy your coffee, you could be anywhere in the world. The birds are singing; you don鈥檛 hear the traffic. It鈥檚 just amazing. No place else in Cairo can even closely approximate that.”
“The general atmosphere now is that of hope and optimism. The current government has sent out many messages of reassurance to investors. A series of significant reforms and national projects have been launched.”
