Agriculture in C么te d’Ivoire: The National Agricultural Investment Program

The new government of Alassane Ouatarra has established a new approach to agriculture in C么te d’Ivoire called the National Agriculture Investment Program (NAIP). Its goals, according to Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly, C么te d’Ivoire’s Minister of Agriculture, are to achieve national food sufficiency, and to increase the agricultural industry’s growth to 8.9%.

Agriculture is the backbone of C么te d鈥橧voire鈥檚 economy. It employs 68% of the labor force, and accounts for 28% of GDP. While the prosperity of the companies and individuals in this sector is variable, depending on market conditions and, to a lesser extent, climatic conditions (amount of rainfall, etc.), it is the most solid factor in the economy.

Diversification of Bahrain’s Economy

Bahrain was the first country in the GCC where oil was discovered. Over the years the revenues from oil and gas sector was used to propel Bahrain’s economic growth and diversification. Bahrain is No.1 country in the GCC in human development. Currently, oil and gas sector contributes only 24% to the GDP and at constant prices only 12%.
